Recently had a four-day weekend in Venice, hundreds of photos, so it will take some time to get them on to Flickr.

The weather was very good, much better than forecast; food was excellent, but expensive. The £ has gone down against the Euro; hate to think what the $ is like!

I very rarely take shots of flowers, but as this was the first of the large poppies to show through in the garden, I broke down and changed the habit of a lifetime.

I should have 'dead-headed' the old one on the left in the shot above.

Scanning a few slides I came across this one. It was taken in the very early morning from a little village above Fiskardo on Cephalonia off the coast of Greece. The early morning sunrise is just breaking over the island of Ithaca and the moon is still up, although it was only about a third full at the time.

The classic Canonet

Got a couple of films back from processing yesterday, one was from my old Canonet. This is the original version with a selenium meter around the lens, so no battery.

I used a roll of FP4 and took a number of shots around Reading (UK); a couple of them are below. I liked the geometric shapes which come out quite well in monochrome. The first is the metal work that is repeated along the side of a multi storey car-park.

Cephalonia

As usual the weather in the UK takes a dip for a holiday weekend, but while I was scanning some slides from a few years back I came across some from a holiday on the Greek island of Cephalonia. The island was the setting for Captain Correlli's Mandolin. Two weeks of sun, and this is one of the little places in Assos, a small village on the island.

In an earlier a post I mentioned the new terminal at Heathrow; I love the structures inside the building. The shot is of the ceiling arrangement in the new arrivals hall.

Lousy mobile phone camera

Sushi-2

Unfortunately I can't get very interested in mobile phones, so I have one with a very poor camera. Not normally a problem until I saw a picture I wanted and had forgotten my camera. This shot was taken looking down on part of a Sushi bar before the guests had started arriving, but while the waiters had put out the small food containers which were going around. I could kick myself for not having the camera, but I use the phone so little that I can't convince myself to upgrade just for the camera facility. I'll have to go back another day and try again.

I had to take my daughter out to Heathrow today to fly back to Denmark, where she lives and works. I took the opportunity to take some shots in the new building; it's quite impressive.

The first shot is one of the large walls of windows. I have desaturated the shot and then cranked up the contrast in iPhoto.

The second shot shows one of a number of large screens they have in the very large vaulted ceiling of the departure area.

Both shots on a Panasonic TZ3 with ISO set at 100. I quite like the symetry in the shots.

I was scanning some of my old slides and came across a box from late summer/autumn a couple of years back. This was shot on a path in the local woods, it was backlit and exposed using the camera's spot-metering facility.

I was looking through some of my slides from a few years back and realised I had not scanned in these 'trannies'; they are from Kalkan in Turkey, we have been there a couple of times. This was in September 2000. We were there a year later when 9/11 happened. One shot shows the underneath of one of the balconies, they do lokk a bit precarious, but they have been there a few years, so I guess they are not ready to fall yet.

Shots were taken on a Leica R4 with 35-70 Vario-Elmar on Fujichrome.
